If a candidate wants to be elected to...Well said.

If a candidate wants to be elected to public service, they should be transparent about their experience.

The problem, of course, is that even if someone is transparent, they have an agenda, which is to get elected. They won't release anything that might hurt that agenda. Just like on your resume you don't mention the job you had shoveling cow dung in high school if you're applying to be a university lab assistant.

I think relevancy plays a part. How we define what is relevant and what isn't is very much a question mark.

And then it can become, how far back do we go?

What was Steve Daines like as a teenager? Is that relevant? Some might think it is.

That's a big reason why I could never run for political office. My record is clean, but I don't want people going back through my life and finding out any little nugget that they can use as a smear tactic to make me look bad.

I think that's why a lot of dynamic people don't run for office. When you work to make change, you're going to make some enemies. You're going to do some things that if taken out of context could be used against you. What rational person would want to open themselves to that criticism?

It's murky waters, but I do believe in transparency, at the end of the day. Especially when it comes to relevant experience that is being touted by candidates themselves. If you say you've served in the military, let people see what you did. If you say you're a teacher, let people see your style of teaching. On that, I agree. I just think there's some difficulty defining what's relevant.
Jake Sorichhttp://www.bigskystatebuzz.comnoreply@blogger.com
